The following Registration Terms & Conditions (the “Terms & Conditions”) apply to all activities and events associated with the 2024 East-West Center International Media Conference. Prior to your registration, you must acknowledge and accept the Terms & Conditions contained herein. Should you not wish to accept the Terms & Conditions you should not register.
Submission of a registration is regarded as affirmation of your acceptance of the Event Terms & Conditions.
COVID-19 Assumption Of Risk, Liability Waiver, and Release of Claims for Participation in EWC Activities and Events
COVID-19 Safety Information
The East-West Center (“EWC”) has adopted safety measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19. The safety measures may be updated from time-to-time, consistent with local, state and federal (CDC) guidelines. Despite its diligence in following these guidelines, EWC cannot guarantee that participants in activities or events held or sponsored by EWC (“EWC Activities”) will not be exposed to or contract COVID-19.
In light of the ongoing spread of COVID-19, individuals who fall within any of the following categories should not participate in EWC Activities. By attending EWC Activities, I certify that I do not fall into any of the following categories:
- Individuals who currently or within the past five (5) days have experienced any symptoms associated with COVID-19, including: fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea; or
- Individuals who have been exposed to a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 or have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and are not yet cleared as non-contagious by state or local public health authorities or the health care team responsible for their treatment.
Duty to Self-Monitor
As a participant in EWC Activities, I agree to self-monitor for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 and to contact EWC at [email protected] if I experience symptoms of COVID-19 within 5 days after participating in any EWC Activities.
Assumption of Risk
I understand the highly contagious nature of COVID-19 and the risk that I may be exposed to or contract COVID-19 by participating in EWC Activities. I understand and acknowledge that exposure to COVID-19 may result in infection, serious illness, personal injury, permanent disability, death, and/or property damage, and I knowingly and willingly assume such risk of infection, illness, or harm that may be associated with participating in EWC Activities. By participating in EWC Activities, I acknowledge and assume all risks and dangers associated with my participation.
Liability Waiver and Release of Claims
I acknowledge that I derive personal satisfaction and a benefit by virtue of my participation in EWC Activities, and that my participation in EWC Activities is willing and voluntary. I hereby waive, release, and forever discharge any and all liability, claims, and demands of whatever kind or nature, including personal injury, death, property damage, or other loss suffered as a result of my participation in EWC Activities (the “Released Claims”), against the East-West Center and its past, present and future affiliates, successors, assigns, directors, officers, employees, volunteers, vendors, and agents (the “Released Parties”), either in law or in equity, to the fullest extent permissible by law, including but not limited to damages or losses caused by the negligence, fault or conduct of any kind on the part of the Released Parties, including but not limited to illness, bodily injury, death, economic loss or out of pocket expenses, or loss or damage to property, which I, my heirs, assignees, next of kin and/or legally appointed or designated representatives, may have or which may hereinafter accrue on my behalf, which arise or may hereafter arise from my participation with the EWC Activities.
By attending and/or participating in EWC activities, you are deemed to have given a full release of liability to the released parties to the fullest extent permitted by law.
Photo/Video Release and Social Media Consent
I hereby grant East-West Center, its representatives, employees, and their respective successors and assigns (collectively, the “Permitted Parties”) permission to use and/or publish photographs and videos of myself electronically or in print. I hereby authorize Permitted Parties to edit, alter, copy, exhibit, publish, or distribute the picture or video for purposes of publicizing their programs or for any lawful purposes. In addition, I waive my rights to any compensation arising or related to the use of the photographs or videos. I release and discharge Permitted Parties from any and all claims arising out of the use of the photos or videos for any lawful purpose, such as for publicity, illustrations, advertising, and web content.
Additionally, I grant Permitted Parties the irrevocable and unrestricted right to reproduce the photographs and/or video images taken by members of my family or me for the use of publication, promotion, illustration, advertising, or trade in any manner or in any medium. I hereby release Permitted Parties and their legal representatives for all claims and liability relating to said images and videos. Furthermore, I grant permission to use my statements that were given during discussion, interview, or other communication, with or without my name, for the purpose of advertising and publicity without restriction. I waive my rights to any compensation.
