Liz A. Dorn is a program coordinator for East-West Center where she manages the Changing Faces Women’s Leadership Seminar, which serves as a model for increasing female entrepreneurship in the Asia Pacific region and has been featured in the 2016 text, Women and Leadership around the World. Liz also coordinates the publicly ticketed #galswithLEI Forum. #galswithLEI celebrates Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Inspiration while connecting Hawaii’s women to international business and social entrepreneurs.

Actor, Filmmaker, and Director, Rise of the Wahine

Dean Kaneshiro is a local actor/filmmaker, who started his journey with the story of “Rise of the Wahine: Champions of Title IX” back in 2011. A husband and father of six, he has a passion to educate and inspire the next generation of young women to live their dreams and for young men to step up to empower, honor, and serve the women in their lives.

Panelist: Patricia F. SAIKI
Former Member, U.S. House of Representatives, Hawaii

Hon. Patricia F. Saiki was a school teacher prior to entering politics. She is third generation Japanese-American born in Hawaii. In 1968, she ran and was elected to the State's first Constitutional Convention and the same year, as a Republican was elected to the State House of Representatives. In 1974, she was elected to the State Senate and served until 1982. In 1986, she was elected the first woman Republican from the state of Hawaii to serve as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. She served there until 1991 and was appointed by President George H. W. Bush to serve as the first person from Hawaii to head-up the Small Business Administration.

Blogger, Sport in American History and Ph.D. Student, American
Studies, University of Hawaii at Manoa

Emalee Nelson is a PhD student in the American Studies Department at UH Mānoa. As an athlete herself, she “retired” after a series of serious knee injuries. Yet, she finds a new passion for sport through her studies, where she researches issues of gender, race and sexuality in sport. She is currently working on her dissertation, which focuses on Cuban women in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.
